In the press - Australian Macworld

Yesterday we were published in Australian Macworld online providing our top three tips for saving energy and money:

"Without wanting to spark too much debate, climate change is a reality that we are currently facing. While in our day-to-day lives, we're mostly getting better at saving the environment (through recycling, hybrid cars, and dual-flush toilets), there is still a silent issue that needs addressing: our energy-hogging computers. In anticipation of Green IT week from 1-7 June, Bianca Wirth from ComputersOff talks us through some tips to save energy and money:

Buzzzzzzz. Buzzzzzzz. Buzzzzzzz. Buzzzzzzz. Buzzzzzzz. Buzzzzzzz.

Can you hear that?

Probably not.

It's silent to the human ear but it’s the cocaine of computing. It's the hum of electricity twisting its way through computer componentry....."

National Australia Bank - Setting a Green IT Example

International Green IT Awareness Week is all about taking action in your corporate or home environment on Green IT.  One of Australia’s biggest banks, National Australia Bank (NAB), is leading the charge with a range of activities during Green IT Week (1-7 June 2010).

Glenn Allan, Platform Specialist at NAB, will be presenting at the Green IT Week Virtual Event, which is running from 1-3 June 2010, on how their organisation achieved significant energy and carbon savings with Trigeneration in their data centre.

However NAB are taking Green IT Week one step further – they have also developed an internal program to help promote the initiative that includes:

  • Promoting Green IT week and internal presentations through e-mail.
  • Promoting Green IT week through Yammer (NAB's internal networking tool)
  • Promoting Green IT week and Virtualisation initiative using posters.
  • Launching a 'Green Hub' intranet site, with Green IT week information.
  • Holding presentations during Green IT week.

What a fantastic example!

What are you doing to support Green IT Week in your organisation?

Do you want to know how to procure Green IT?

Do you need to know how to procure more environmentally sustainable IT products and services?

Then you need to attend the Green IT Week Virtual Event!  Amelia Chapman from Eco-Buy, a not-for-profit organisation that specialise in environmental purchasing, will be presenting on "Procuring Green IT – tips and tricks to get the outcome you want".

During her talk, Amelia will be discussing how to translate the environmental impacts into procurement processes to optimise your outcomes. In this presentation, Amelia will also discuss the key ways you can get it right from the start – from understanding product lifecycle, to engaging with your supply chain to ensure your IT contracts and tenders produce the best environmental outcome possible. She will also provide an overview of the various environmental labelling systems that exist for green IT and what they mean in practice, illustrated with practical case studies.

There is no excuse - it's FREE to attend!
