Wow it has been a pretty hectic time since International Green IT Awareness Week! Lots to catch up on and finalise post-event. As you would have seen in oher posts and articles on this site, we had a great response to the week. The Virtual Event that we hosted had over 300 people register across 37 different countries - an fantastic result for our first year but one that we absolutely wish to improve upon for next year - lets go even bigger and better!!!
And here are PDFs of some of the presentations (unfortunately we didn't receive all presentations in print format) - right click on the URL and select "Save Target As" (Internet Explorer) or "Save Link As" (Mozilla) - to download each presentation:
There has been some interesting research released last week indicating that the Green IT Services market is likely to reach $5 billion by 2015. The report said the growth "...in the market will be primarily driven by factors, such as, greater focus on data center optimization, widespread adoption of Green IT initiatives beyond data centers, and development of new green management software technologies, among others."
And said the key players in this market (to the suprise of no-one) are: "...Accenture PLC, BT Global Services, Deloitte, Global Green Consulting Group, Inc., GreenIT, HCL Technologies, Ltd., Hewlett-Packard Company, HP Enterprise Services, International Business Machines Corporation, SustainableIT, Tata Consultancy Services, Computer Sciences Corporation, Dell, Inc., Getronics NV, Intel Corporation, Oracle, and Wipro Systems and Technology Division."
Well, its the last day of International Green IT Awareness Week and as the CEO fo ComputersOff.ORG, I can confidently proclaim it a success! Since starting this initiative less than 5 months ago, we have made green IT awareness a part of the minds of thousands of individuals and organisations. We have had such as positive response to this initiative - which is wonderful to see.
In addition to the usual Green IT week activities, ComputersOff.ORG hosted a 3-day 24 hour virtual event which had over 300 attendees register from across 35 countries!
Early on in the campaign for International Green IT Awareness Week, we wanted to engage with everyone on the issue of Green IT. So we came up with the concept of a breeding group of Greenmen who would wander the streets of Sydney, Australia. On day one, we had one lone greenman. On day two, we had two greenman and so on.
Today, after 19 days of engagement and a veritable herd of greenman wandering the streets, plus the development of a secret website (www.greenmangang.org), we revealed the Greenmen as our mascots of International Green IT Awareness Week this morning with a crowd of hundreds of people and TV cameras getting in on the action.
You can see all their fun videos on the website however here is a taster...where they took over the Apple store on George St...
Sitting here at 10pm on a Sunday night I am contemplating the last day before our launch of both International Green IT Awareness Week, and the Green IT Week Virtual Event. Wow! What a ride!
What is particularly cool about it is that 5 months ago I started with ComputersOff.ORG to help them promote environmental IT. Today we have thousands of people who are armed with more knowledge on what they can do to implement a more sustainable IT environment.
Our good friends at ComputerWorld last week interviewed one of our Celebrity Supporters, James Arnold Taylor, who is the voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Leonardo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
