What is International Green IT Awareness Week?
It is an initiative hosted by ComputersOff.ORG from 1st-7th June, which aims to:
Inspire
- Motivate individuals and businesses to take action
- Support each other locally, regionally and globally in green IT innovation
- Share experiences and learnings
Minimise
- Reduce the environmental footprint of technology
- Reduce travel associated with typical conferences
Empower
- Providing access to the latest in research and practical implementation
- Collaborating with professionals and specialists globally
- Promote the use of technology for environmental initiatives
Why host International Green IT Awareness Week?
To encourage individuals and organisations to demand more from themselves and their partners, holding each other to account for our impact on the environment.
Is this just an Australian initiative?
No. Although ComputersOff.ORG (the organiser of the week) is headquartered in Australia, the International Green IT Awareness Week campaign has been developed as a global campaign.
About ComputersOff.ORG
ComputersOff.ORG is a non-profit organisation. The organisation's mission is to engage with, and educate individuals and corporations on the environmental footprint of technology, and assist them in reducing the related greenhouse gas emissions produced by technology.
Our Mission
To reduce the negative impacts of technology on the environment and promote the sustainable use of technology to help solve environmental problems, by:
- Educating individuals, corporations and government
- Promoting the implementation of green IT best practices
- Encouraging the development of more sustainable technology alternatives
Our Goals
By 2015, ComputersOff.ORG aims to:
- Educate over 250,000 consumers on methods and strategies they can implement at home to reduce their environmental impact at home
- Educate 20,000 businesses on improving their technology environmental footprint
- Assist businesses and individuals globally reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 10,000,000 tonnes
Our Guiding Principles
ComputersOff.ORG is:·
- an independent, global and non-political party
- implementing definite projects designed to educate on and/or remediate technology related environmental issues
- developing strong partnerships across communities, government and business to help us achieve our goals
- operating cost-effectively and with accountability to donor's contributions
How we are funded
ComputersOff.ORG funds Green IT educational initiatives through donations and a certification program.
The ComputersOff.ORG Certification & Labelling Program aligns to the Green IT Framework developed by Connection Research (Australia):
