2013 International Green IT Awareness Week

"We are all using IT services at an ever-increasing rate, but what does the future hold for Green IT, and what services, new business and technological innovations can we expect in the next few years?"

In 2013, the International Green IT Awareness Week Virtual Conference sought to answer these questions simultaneously from all regions of the world, and share the latest developments, trends and applications that are forwarding the sustainable IT agenda.

International Green IT Awareness Week

International Green IT Awareness Week (1-7 June) brings together the global network of Green IT professionals with thousands of tech journalists, CIOs, CTOs, IT Managers, sustainability professionals, carbon managers and more under one virtual roof. With dozens of live and pre-recorded tactical and practical learning sessions, international keynotes, Q&A panels and more - this is a must attend for those looking for greater sustainability performance and efficiency from their organisation and IT assets.

Our panel of leading international speakers present a series of engaging, pragmatic and thought-provoking conference-style presentations. The aim of the presentations is to equip attendees with a range of skills and the knowledge necessary to take action on green IT, however big or small.

The week of education and action was developed to encourage individuals and organisations to demand more from themselves and their partners, holding each other to account for our impact on the environment. The initiative also aims to encourage those individuals and organisations to bring together their CIO, IT Directors along with their business managers, CFO and COE’s to start the discussion around what their organisation can do to green their IT infrastructure.

See you at International Green IT Awareness Week!

"There are many ways we can all make small changes to help protect the environment for our children, for the future, and it's as easy by collaborating and working together."

Mark Winter,
Founder & CEO - FFITS.ORG

What is Green IT?

What is Green IT?

Green IT stands for Green Information Technology. Information Technology is essentially the design, implementation and management of computers that both individuals and businesses use.

In a nutshell, "Green" IT is composed of two things:

  1. Minimising the negative impact of information technology use on the environment
  2. Using information technology to help solve environmental issues

As you can see these are almost two areas at opposite poles. In our lives technology helps us to do everything from send a funny joke to our friends, to make sure the trains run on time, to allowing us to warn cities of tsunamis and earthquakes. We need it and it isn't going away any time soon. On the other hand a typical computer is made up of thousands of chemicals and if we put all the computers in the world together, they use massive amounts of electricity.

What are the benefits of attending Green IT Week?
